OUTREACH WORKER
Part Time 

Timmins and Area Women in Crisis (TAWC) is a dynamic, community based feminist organization, which provides services on intimate partner abuse and sexual violence to women and their children in the Timmins area.  TAWC works within an integrated feminist, anti-racism, anti-oppression framework.  The agency administers a sexual assault centre, an emergency shelter as well as second stage housing to abused women and their children.

 

We are looking for a dynamic and highly motivated woman to join our team in the capacity of Outreach Worker in a Part Time position at Timmins and Area Women in Crisis.      

The ideal candidates will demonstrate the following:

Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary degree/diploma in a relevant field and/or equivalent experience

  • Demonstrated skills and experience working from an integrated feminist anti-racism anti oppression framework

  • Experience in providing crisis intervention, support, information and referrals to survivors of sexual violence

  • Specialized training in sexual and domestic violence, trauma, mental health and substance abuse issues

  • A thorough analysis of the issues facing Indigenous persons and communities

  • Understanding of the social service sector and provision of non-profit service to the community

  • Ability to organize and carry out programming, groups, activities and events

  • Sound judgement, problem solving, conflict resolution, crisis intervention, advocacy and mediation skills

  • Excellent interpersonal skills including; communication, networking and group/meeting facilitation

  • Strong documentation, report writing and administration skills as well as computer competency, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint

  • Must be able to do lifting/carrying

  • Must have flexible work availability

  • Must possess a valid Class G driver’s licence and own a reliable vehicle with appropriate insurance coverage

  • Must undergo a vulnerable sector criminal record check

Main Responsibilities:

·       Provide individual short term and long-term counselling, crisis intervention, support and information for women who are survivors of sexual and physical violence

·       Participate in outreach initiatives to promote programs and services in schools, libraries and/or other community spaces

·       Accompany and advocate for service users as well as for the agency on issues of violence

·       Plan, develop and co-facilitate open or closed support groups or workshops for women

·       Link women to appropriate community referrals

·       Provide risk assessments and the development of safety plans related to women’s unique situations

·       Co-facilitate community education and awareness sessions

·       Participate in agency and community events  

·       Link women and their dependents to appropriate community referrals

·       Attend and participate in fundraising and awareness raising ventures

·       Additional tasks as it relates to the organization

 

TAWC has a COVID-19 Vaccination Policy that requires individuals to take part in COVID-19 vaccination programs recommended by Public Health, unless they are approved for a medical or human rights accommodation from TAWC. Compliance with this policy is mandatory for this position.

 

Hours of Work:  14 hours per week - the can be combined with another position to create a full time contract
