PART-TIME WATER TREATMENT OPERATOR (CLASS OIT to IV) (Water Filtration Plant) (Competition No.: PWE-2017-20)

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Reporting to the Chief Operator, the Operator will:
Ø Conduct water sampling program for 3, 8 hour days per week (48 hours/pay period)
Ø Operate independently at the Water Filtration Plant on a 12 hour shift rotation (24/7 basis); shift work (days, nights, weekends) as required.
Ø Document all operational parameters as per procedures outlined in City operational procedures, and Ministry of the Environment procedures.
Ø Identify and record adverse water conditions, and implement the necessary corrective actions.
Ø Report to Spills Action Centre (SAC) as required.
Ø Perform laboratory work.
Ø Perform operational parameters on water samples from the plant.
Ø Collect water samples throughout the distribution system
Ø Calibrate and monitor equipment.
Ø Record and manage customer issues as per operational procedures.
Ø Complete operational plant inspections as per operational procedures.
Ø Complete operational logs and checklists, and CMMS work orders.
Ø Carry out work in accordance with health and safety regulations and procedures.
Ø Use industry related software programs such as CMMS, MS Office, SCADA
Ø Perform other duties as required by the Chief Operator.
Ø Successful completion of Secondary School (Grade 12) Education.
Ø Class G driving licence.
Ø Must possess a valid Water Operator’s Water Treatment Certificate, Class OIT to Class IV, issued under Ontario Regulation 128/04. If OIT certified, must be willing to obtain a Class 1 certification.
Ø Successful completion of 2-year Water Treatment or 2-year related Technical Diploma from an accredited College or University is considered an asset.
Ø Minimum of one (1) year of operating experience in a water treatment facility considered an asset.
Ø Operational knowledge of Process Control instrumentation.
Ø Ability to work in an un-supervised environment.
Ø Working knowledge of the Ontario Safe Drinking Water Act.
Ø Working knowledge of Ontario Regulation 169/03 (Ontario Drinking Water Quality Standards)
Ø Working knowledge of Ontario Regulation 170/03 ( Adverse Sample & Resolution Reporting)
Ø Experience with documentation, operational logs, and recording systems.
Ø Confined Space certification an asset.
Ø Ability to use related software programs such as CMMS and SCADA
Ø Must meet requirements of the physical demand analysis of the position
Ø Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
Classification: Water Treatment Operator (Class OIT to IV)
Rate of Pay: $26.42 to $33.60 per hour (2017 rate) (In accordance with CUPE Local 210 Collective Agreement)
