DES is seeking to fill a casual hourly paid Effluent Treatment Plant Operator position at our Timmins operations. This position would fit a retired or semi-retired individual seeking approximately one week of work per month during the months of plant operation to supplement their time and/or pension.
The Ideal Candidate will possess:
Experience working in Industrial Establishments
Experience collecting water samples and performing environmental monitoring.
Experience with SCADA systems (e.g. RSLogix, IFix, etc.)
Journeyman Electrician or Instrumentation Certificate a preferential asset.
Excellent mechanical knowledge
Well-developed analytical, evaluative and problem solving skills
Strong interpersonal communication and writing skills
Valid and clean class G driver’s licence
Duties will include:
Operate the Lime Treatment Plant (LTP) to maintain Acid Collection Pond (ACP) water levels within operating parameters and final effluent quality within allowable discharge limits, as prescribed by the site Environmental Compliance Approval (ECA)
Ensure LTP inspections and maintenance for mechanical, instrumentation and electrical are performed as required and that the required critical spares are available
Perform Winter snow plowing, when possible, to maintain site access to all required access points
Perform LTP equipment repairs or replacement as necessary, when safe to do so.
Collecting required surface and groundwater samples and other field data according to an established schedule based on regulatory and internal requirements
Ensure collected samples are prepared, sealed and delivered as required.
Ensure the integrity of the SCADA system through operation, monitoring and maintenance as required
Ensure lime and other reagent requirements for the LTP are met and that coordination and good communications amongst the Supplier, Operations Superintendent and truck driver are maintained
Report any public complaints, concerns, incidents, accidents or near misses in a timely fashion as required by DES and client
Ensure plant is clean and maintained in a tidy professional manner
On-call to respond to site alarm conditions
