FULL-TIME DEPUTY TAX COLLECTOR (Financial Services Department) (Competition No.: FIN-2022-04)

Full-Time • Timmins Region

Duties:

• Under the supervision of the Chief Tax Collector, collection of municipal tax and utility billings
• Actively pursue delinquent tax and utility accounts to ensure collection or establish payment arrangements
• Receive and respond to complex inquiries from general public, representatives of professional agencies, and government regulatory representatives pertaining to tax and utility accounts
• Perform complex calculations and balancing functions on a daily basis of significant impact
• Under the Municipal Act, prepare all necessary documentation required for properties eligible for tax registration
• Responsible for the preparation of all tax and utility bills in accordance with City policies
• Communicate, where required, with other tax authorities and organizations on tax and assessment matters
• Administration of surcharges and other fees added to tax and utility accounts
• Participate in and support the department’s Continuous Improvement Program (CI), by identifying opportunities for improvements in City processes with the aim of making processes as efficient as possible OR co-ordinate and provide support for special projects and events
• Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

• Post Secondary graduate with a diploma or certificate in Business Administration, graduate of the Municipal Tax Administration Program
• A minimum of two years financial and collection experience
• Excellent oral and written communication skills required with previous public contact experience
• Exhibits proven ability towards accuracy and detail
• Demonstrated ability to multi-task and handle large workload
• The initiative and ability to handle sensitive accounts in a confidential manner with minimum supervision
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office software including Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
• Experience working with Financial Software i.e.: VADIM General Ledger, Tax, Utility
• Experience and/or strong aptitude with other software, including OPTA, Municipal Connect, GIS and Teranet
• Proven ability to work with others
• Proficiency in both official languages (French and English) is a requirement
• Current and clear Criminal Record Check
• Proof of COVID-19 vaccination mandatory

SALARY LEVEL 10: $33.45 to $39.34 (2022) In accordance with CUPE Local 434 Agreement
