INDIGENOUS ANTI-HUMAN TRAFFICKING SEXUAL ASSAULT COUNSELLOR

Full Time—35 hours per week

 

Timmins and Area Women in Crisis (TAWC) is a dynamic, community-based feminist organization that provides services for women and their children who’ve experienced domestic and/or sexual violence.  TAWC works within an integrated feminist, anti-racist, anti-oppression framework.  The agency administers a sexual assault centre, emergency shelter as well as second stage housing for women and their children. Currently, TAWC is expanding services to include anti-human trafficking supports for rural and remote communities in Northeastern Ontario.

 

We are looking for a dynamic and highly motivated woman to join our team in the capacity of Full-Time Indigenous Anti-Human Trafficking Sexual Assault Counsellor working at Timmins and Area Women in Crisis.                    

 

The ideal candidates will demonstrate the following:

Qualifications:

·       Post-secondary degree/diploma in a relevant field and/or equivalent experience

·       Excellent understanding of violence against women and women’s rights/issues

·       Demonstrated skills and experience working from an integrated feminist anti-racism anti-oppression framework

·       Specialized training in human trafficking, sexual and domestic violence, trauma, mental health and substance use

·       Understanding of the issues facing Indigenous Peoples and Communities

·       Understanding of the social service sector and provision of non-profit service to the community, including Indigenous-specific services

·       Experience in providing crisis intervention, support, information, and referrals to survivors of sexual violence, including Indigenous women and girls

·       Demonstrated crisis intervention and conflict resolution abilities

·       Strong documentation, report writing and administration skills as well as computer competency, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint

·       Sound judgement, problem-solving, advocacy and mediation skills

·       Excellent interpersonal skills including communication, cooperation, networking, and group/meeting facilitation

·       Ability to work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment

·       Ability to organize and carry out programming, groups, activities, and events

·       Must undergo a vulnerable sector criminal record check

·       Must be able to travel to remote and rural locations in Ontario (Remote travel: 2-3 days, 4 times per year; Rural travel: 1-2 days, 4 times per year) as part of the Anti-Human Trafficking Mobile Team

 

Main Responsibilities:

·       Provide individual short term and long-term counselling in person and via zoom

·       Provide crisis intervention support to women experiencing violence

·       Provide support and information for women who are survivors of human trafficking, sexual, and physical violence

·       Plan, develop and co-facilitate open or closed support groups or workshops for women

·       Accompany and advocate for clients and TAWC on issues of human trafficking, sexual and domestic violence

·       Link women to appropriate community referrals

·       Provide risk assessments and the development of safety plans related to a woman’s unique situations

·       Complete various administrative and reporting tasks such as database case notes, etc.

·       Participate in agency and community events  

·       Travel to remote and rural Communities in Northern Ontario to provide outreach and court services for Indigenous survivors of human trafficking

 

Hours of work: 35 hours per week, mostly Monday to Friday, although may require some evenings/weekends
