Lab Technician

Workforce North

Contract • Timmins Region

JOB SUMMARY

Performs lab analysis of product samples to determine characteristics and properties for the purpose of quality control

·         The position works 7 days a week with the quantity of samples to be tested being dependent on the amount of product produced for any given day.

·         The position works primarily in the QC and milling labs, but is also required to go in the plant and warehouse, as well as outside on the company’s property.

·         The Lab Technician routinely communicates with the Quality Coordinator, Shipper/Receiver, Production Supervisor, Customer Service Representatives, and 3PL warehouse staff. 

 RESPONSIBILITIES 

·         Prepares samples for final product testing and pre-ship samples for customers as needed

·         Tests product samples according to standard test methods in order to verify conformity to specifications

·         Releases conforming product for shipment to customers

·         Initiates the control of non-conforming product

·         Maintains and monitors/calibrates test equipment

·         Maintains accurate records of test results and test equipment monitoring

·         Maintains the organized storage of retained samples

·         Prepares and sends samples for sample requests and monthly samples for TEM testing

·         Prepares and issues Certificates of Analysis to customers and 3PL warehouse

·         Orders laboratory supplies

Education and Experience requirements: 

·         2 year college diploma in chemical engineering or related field, or

·         2 years related work experience, or

·         2 years equivalent combination of education and experience

 

Knowledge, skills, abilities and other characteristics:

·         practical knowledge of good laboratory practices

·         Computer literate with knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet programs

·         Organizational, time management, language, and interpersonal skills

·         Ability to read and interpret information such as safety rules, operating instructions, and procedures

·         Ability to write clear, concise reports and correspondence

·         Ability to make informed decisions that are in the best interest of both the company and the ??                customer

·         Ability to work independently, with minimum supervision

·         Ability to apply mathematical concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions

·         Ability to deal with problems involving several variables

·         Attention-to-detail oriented
