Position Summary:
We are seeking a compassionate, dedicated part-time Shelter Cook to join our team. This role ensures food safety, minimizes waste, and creatively uses food donations to provide nutritious, cost-effective meals.

Key Responsibilities:

• Plan, prepare, and serve meals for 50-60 people
• Wash dishes, clean kitchen surfaces, and maintain a tidy kitchen environment
• Assist with food donation pickups and storage
• Follow all food safety regulations and ensure proper handling, storage, and sanitation
• Communicate kitchen needs to Operations Manager and Team Lead
• Participate in team meetings, trainings, and professional development

Requirements:

• Previous experience in a professional or community kitchen (large-scale food prep preferred)
• Valid Food Handler’s Certificate or equivalent food safety certification
• Ability to work under pressure, lift up to 30 lbs, and stand for long periods
• Organizational skills for inventory and meal planning
• Compassion and sensitivity to working with marginalized populations
• Confidentiality and professionalism
• Satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Criminal Records Check
• COVID-19 vaccination (as per Living Space policy)

Desired Skills:

• Ability to adjust meal plans based on available ingredients
• Strong initiative and ability to work independently
• Understanding of issues related to homelessness, poverty, and mental illness

·         Ability to speak multiple languages; including Cree will be considered an asset
