Pay: $22 per hour

Position Summary:
The Shelter Relief Worker/Monitor position combines the responsibilities of
providing shelter operations support and ensuring safety/security in the
shelter environment. This role involves direct client interaction, supporting
shelter programs, performing routine safety checks, and maintaining a clean,
supportive space for clients. Under the direction of the Operations Manager and
Team Lead, the Shelter Relief Worker/Monitor works to ensure a safe and
respectful environment while supporting individuals with complex needs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Safety & Security: Monitor entrances, conduct security checks, and perform perimeter patrols. Ensure safety of clients, staff, and property.
- Client Support: Assist clients with daily needs, including meal preparation, documentation, and supporting case management activities.
- Housekeeping: Maintain cleanliness of shelter areas (e.g., sleeping areas, washrooms, laundry, and drop-in spaces).
- Crisis Intervention: Respond calmly and effectively to high-tension situations. Utilize crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques as needed.
- Cooperative Accountability: Ensure clients adhere to shelter policies and guidelines, following established best practices with a trauma-informed approach.
- Teamwork & Reporting: Work closely with the shelter team to ensure a well-managed environment and document client interactions, incidents, and daily logs.
Requirements:
- 2-year diploma in a related field (e.g., Social Service Worker) or equivalent work/life experience
- Paid or unpaid experience working with vulnerable individuals.
- Ability to work a variety of shifts, including days, evenings, and nights.
- Familiarity with local Indigenous communities and organizations.
- Ability to speak multiple languages, including Cree, is an asset.
- Security or related experience, with additional training in Nonviolent Crisis Intervention or similar certifications considered an asset.
- Strong communication skills and ability to maintain professional and ethical boundaries.
- Vulnerable Sector Criminal Records Check is required.
- Living Space has a Vaccination Policy in place.

- Knowledge of homelessness, mental illness, addiction, and poverty issues.
Scheduling:
Part-Time Shifts are assigned based on business needs. Part-Time Employees must
be available for a minimum of three shifts per week, with flexibility to work
up to 44 hours per week.
