Compensation: $70,000 - $90,000 annually, based on qualifications and experience.

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY
Northern Sun Mining currently has an exciting opportunity for a Metallurgical Technician to join our team. The Metallurgical Technician is responsible for supporting daily mill operations by collecting samples, performing routine laboratory tests, and providing accurate data used to monitor plan performance and metal recovery. The role assists with process troubleshooting and optimization by supplying reliable metallurgical information to operations and technical staff. In addition to metallurgical duties, the technician also carries out environmental responsibilities, including routine environmental sampling, monitoring, and data recording to help ensure the site maintains compliance with internal compliance with internal standards and regulatory requirements.
Please note this is not a camp-based position.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Sampling & Data Collection
- Collect routine plant samples (e.g., feed, tails, concentrates, slurry streams).
- Conduct shift sampling rounds and ensure samples are representative and timely.
- Prepare and label all samples according to established procedures.
2. Laboratory Testing
- Perform standard metallurgical tests such as: grind checks, flotation tests, moisture tests, density and viscosity checks
- Operate basic laboratory equipment and ensure proper calibration.
3. Process Monitoring
- Record and upload daily production and metallurgical data.
- Track plant KPIs including recovery, grade, throughput, and reagent usage.
- Identify irregularities in results and report them promptly to the Mill Manager or designate.
4. Environmental Responsibilities
- Perform routine environmental sampling, including water, tailings, effluent, and other compliance‑related sampling as assigned.
- Record, track, and submit environmental data in accordance with site procedures.
- Maintain accurate documentation for regulatory and internal compliance purposes.
- Assist with environmental inspections, monitoring programs, and fieldwork as required.
- Follow all environmental policies, including proper handling of samples, chemicals, and waste.
5. Technical Support
- Assist with plant troubleshooting by providing accurate and timely data.
- Support metallurgical staff with test work, sample preparation, and data entry.
- Participate in small‑scale process improvement activities as assigned.
6. Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain accurate logs, spreadsheets, and databases.
- Prepare daily reports summarizing laboratory results and key trends.
- Ensure all data is filed and stored according to quality control standards.
- Assist in the development of SOPs.
7. Safety & Compliance
- Follow all mill safety policies and lab procedures.
- Properly handle reagents, chemicals, and PPE.
- Maintain clean and organized laboratory and sampling areas.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Diploma or certificate in Metallurgy, Chemical Technology, Mining Technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- Minimum 1–3 years of experience in a mineral processing plant or laboratory.
- Understanding of mineral processing operations, including crushing, grinding, flotation, tailings, and general plant flows.
- Legally entitled to work in Canada.
- Ability to perform routine sampling and follow proper sample handling procedures.
- Experience using basic laboratory equipment (balances, pH meters, ovens, density meters, etc.).
- Ability to conduct standard metallurgical tests (grind checks, flotation tests, moisture tests, density tests).
- Ability to recognize abnormal results, inconsistencies, or process deviations.
- Knowledge of environmental sampling practices (water, effluent, tailings) and proper documentation requirements is an asset.
- Ability to record, organize, and enter data accurately using spreadsheets or sample‑tracking systems.
- Comfort reviewing data trends and preparing simple summaries or reports.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow established procedures.
- Good communication skills for interacting with operators, supervisors, and technical staff.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast‑paced environment.
- Strong safety mindset and adherence to PPE and site rules.
- Physical ability to work in a mill setting, including climbing stairs, lifting samples, and working in noisy or dusty conditions.
- Willingness to work in changing temperatures and outdoor conditions during field sampling.
