Purpose
To oversee the coordination of maintenance resources in a safe and cost effective way to ensure that the site achieves budgeted safe production and, with the aim of maintaining and improving asset performance in terms of safety, production cost control and sustainability. To manage the activities of the Mill Maintenance Department and optimize overall equipment effectiveness.
Ensure that direct reports and respective work areas are in compliance with all of Porcupine Health and Safety policies and the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act. Ensure direct reports have the necessary training, skills, knowledge and tools to do their jobs safely. Provide support to all areas on issues that jointly involve production and safety. Assist in accident and incident investigations and ensure that recommendations are implemented by agreed upon dates.
Responsibilities
Implement and sustain asset management strategy in line with site standard
- Implement maintenance strategies, systems and standards for site to reduce risk and variation.
- Provide site-wide management and leadership for the successful implementation of the reliability-focused maintenance management operating system.
- Report performance of the team using key performance indicators, with emphasis on continuous improvement and trend analysis.
- Implement project recommendations when deemed beneficial eg Hazop, risk contingency planning, etc.
- Follow-up on recommendations of the insurance auditors report and provide advice concerning value and priority of initiatives.
- Assist with the development, and provide leadership to implement the property-wide asset management system.
- Stay abreast of current advances in applications of technology to asset management.
Manage site assets to enhance the productivity and efficiency of all assets
- Ensure maintenance of all site assets.
- Manage process to select and implement or purchase new assets.
- Manage overall life of site assets.
- Oversee schedule and breakdown maintenance and repairs for all equipment on-site.
Provide leadership to the maintenance team, including maintenance contractors and other service providers
- Build an appropriate team through recruitment and development.
- Provide clear work objectives and expectations of the performance levels required to achieve business plans and production targets.
- Ensure that training is provided in accordance with the current and future needs of the mine.
- Ensure the required resources and equipment are in place to achieve planned production, while meeting planned costs.
- Manage performance by setting expectations, conducting performance reviews, and providing feedback and coaching to direct reports.
- Work collaboratively with Union and Joint Health and Safety Committee.
- Promote and maintain a high performance culture.
- Review contractor work as an effort to bring this work in house if economical to do so.
Strategic Planning
- Work with the site Asset Management team at generating a mill maintenance annual budget and quarterly forecast.
- Maintain a strong focus on cost control including performing monthly cost reviews, ensuring accurate cost allocation and monthly accruals.
- Develop business cases and IRP’s for required spend whether budgeted or unbudgeted.
Training and Education
- University degree in mechanical, industrial, electrical engineering or certified trades person with over 10 years of supervisory experience.
- Eight to twelve years of experience at an operating site and a proven successful track record with fixed asset maintenance.
- Society of Maintenance and Reliability Professionals (SMRP) certification or Maintenance Management Professional certification would be an asset.
- Project management experience is an asset
