Compensation & Benefits Information

·         Rate of pay ranges from: $39.07 to $56.00, as per the Ontario Nurses Association (ONA) Collective Agreement

·         Paid vacation and benefits coverage for the Permanent Full-time position, as per the ONA Collective Agreement

·         Percent in lieu and vacation percent pay up to 20% for the Permanent Part-time position, as per the ONA Collective Agreement

 

Job Summary:

The oncology nurse practices at a high level of autonomy and accountability in collaboration with oncologists and the inter-professional health-care team to provide a continuum of patient care from prevention, early detection, diagnosis, treatment, follow up, palliation, bereavement and survivorship.

As well as providing chemotherapy services, the nurse will also administer non-chemotherapy treatments as scheduled (blood transfusions, remicade, IVIG etc.)

 

Requirements:

·         A graduate from an approved School of Nursing

·         Must be registered with the College of Nurses of Ontario in good standing

·         Must have Venipuncture Certification (IV Certification), B.C.L.S. Certificate, and added nursing skills relevant to the nursing area.

·         Minimum of 2-3 years full-time equivalent experience within the last 4 years in an oncology or active medical/surgical unit.

·         Preference will be given to having a current certification in the administration of chemotherapy

·         Within 6 months of hire, will be required to compete the Provincial Standardization Chemotherapy and Biotherapy course offered by DeSouza

·         Commitment to professional development and able to maintain chemotherapy certification yearly.

·         Excellent communication skills both written and verbal.

·         Ability to work in a high-paced, team environment.

·         Strong interpersonal, organizational and problem solving skills.

·         Strong computer skills including Internet Explorer, Meditech and order entry.

·         Ability to meet the physical requirements of the position.

·         Knowledge regarding the administration structure of the satellite units and their relationship with the RCP.

·         Availability is essential to this position.

·         Other duties as assigned.

·         Bilingualism is an asset
