POSITION SUMMARY
The Student Success Leads will work in classrooms with teachers supporting literacy, numeracy and special education to impact student achievement. They will provide professional development leadership for the K-12 school communities of Attawapiskat, Kashechewan, Fort Albany, and Moose Cree First Nations. Working collaboratively with a team of education professionals, Leads will demonstrate a strong commitment to student learning, Omushkego culture and language, and the successful implementation of culturally relevant literacy, numeracy, special education and student well being initiatives.
• The Literacy or Numeracy Lead will work with each school principal and teachers supporting literacy or numeracy initiatives to impact student achievement in literacy and in numeracy.
As a member of a second-level services provider of professional development and capacity building of educators within the OE community, the Leads will work in collaboration with stakeholders to foster a regional network of educators focused on student success programming and initiatives in the region.
REQUIREMENTS
• Current Certificate of Qualifications and Registration with the Ontario College of Teachers
• Relevant AQ specialist qualifications related to Lead's specific portfolio; specialist qualifications in special education for Special Education Lead is required
• Minimum of 3 years successful teaching experience of Literacy, Numeracy, and Special Education Leads
• Comprehensive knowledge of the development of mathematics or reading-writing-communication concepts and skills, current literacy and numeracy trends and practices, and current student learning assessment practices in elementary and /or secondary schools
• Experience with Ontario's language arts or math curriculum
• Experience in working with assessments at the early learning, primary, junior, intermediate, and secondary levels, including EQAO-OSSLT
• Proven experience in designing and facilitating professional development for educators
• Ability to maintain confidentiality
• Understanding of First Nation-operated and Ontario education systems
• Understanding and experience working within the Mushkegowuk communities
• Ability to travel to and work in the Mushkegowuk communities and schools
• Strong leadership, advocacy, time management and problem-solving skills
• Excellent interpersonal, communication (oral and written), and computer skills
• Fluency in Cree an asset
• Valid Class "G" driver's license
• A current satisfactory CPIC and Vulnerable Persons screening required
