POSITION SUMMARY
Under the supervision of the Primary Care Manager, the Health Promoter will assess, define, implement, and supervise all health promotion and community engagement activities in the Mushkegowuk region. These activities are aimed towards increasing community knowledge and awareness of indigenous health and health risks, improving current health practices, and promoting healthy lifestyles. The Health Promoter will work closely with our multidisciplinary team to ensure our communities are given the proper tools and knowledge to promote, support and maintain a healthy lifestyle.
REQUIREMENTS
· Certification in health promotion/ education or equivalent with 3-5 years related experience considered an asset.
· Bachelor of Science in Health Promotion preferred.
· Ability to demonstrate initiative and effective problem-solving skills.
· Excellent interpersonal, communication, and group facilitation skills
· Effective leadership skills
· Ability to work both independently and within a team environment.
· Self-driven with a solution-oriented approach.
· Sensitivity to the needs of a multi-cultural community and willingness to apply principles of Truth and Reconciliation in the work as a Health Promoter
· Current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS)
· Experience working with Indigenous Populations and Indigenous Issues
· Works in a culturally safe manner and demonstrates the ability to understand and empathize with our patients’ unique needs.
· Knowledge of the Mushkegowuk history, culture, cultural teachings, protocols, and ceremonies
· Protect and respect privacy and confidentiality.
· Willing to travel to the communities we serve.
· Knowledge of health promotion strategies
· Experience in program planning and evaluation
· Strong communication and presentation skills
· Experience in a medical environment is considered an asset.
· Cree speaking is considered an asset.
· Valid driver’s license
· Satisfactory CPIC and Vulnerable Sectors check
· Experience with Electronic Medical Records (EMR)
