Timmins and Area Women in Crisis (TAWC) is a dynamic, community-based feminist organization, which provides services on intimate partner abuse and sexual violence to women and their children in the Timmins area. TAWC works within an integrated feminist, anti-racist, anti-oppression framework. The agency administers a sexual assault centre, emergency shelter as well as second stage housing to abused women and their children.
We are looking for a dynamic woman to join our team in the capacity of Family Court Support Worker.
The ideal candidates will demonstrate the following:
Qualifications:
- Post-secondary degree/diploma in a relevant field and/or equivalent experience
- Proven dedication to violence against women work/ women’s issues
- Solid understanding of feminist ideology and anti-racism/anti-oppression principles
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in providing crisis intervention, support, information and referrals to survivors of sexual and domestic violence
- Specialized training in sexual and domestic violence, trauma, mental health and substance abuse issues
- A thorough analysis of the issues facing Indigenous persons and communities
- Experience navigating Family Court and Child Welfare Systems
- Working knowledge of Child and Family Services Act, Family Responsibility Office, Landlord and Immigration and Legal Aid
- Demonstrated crisis intervention and conflict resolution abilities
- Sound judgment, problem solving and organizational skills
- Understanding of the social service sector and providing non-profit service to the community
- Strong documentation, report writing and administration skills and computer competency.
- Ability to work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment
- A reliable vehicle and the ability to work evenings and after hours as back-up on call
- Must undergo a vulnerable sector criminal record check
Main Responsibilities:
- Orient women with Family Court procedures and processes
- Arrange for and/or attend court and legal appointments with women as necessary
- Assist women in completing legal forms
- Accompany and advocate for clients as well as for the agency on issues of sexual and domestic violence and throughout Family Court
- Complete risk assessments and the develop safety plans related to a woman’s unique situation
- Maintain knowledge of current and new legislation that pertains to all aspects of the Family Court Process
- Link women to appropriate community referrals
- Complete various administrative and reporting tasks such as database case notes, etc
- Attend and participate in fundraising and awareness raising ventures
- Additional tasks as it relates to the organization
TAWC has a COVID-19 Vaccination Policy that requires individuals to take part in COVID-19 vaccination programs recommended by Public Health, unless they are approved for a medical or human rights accommodation from TAWC. Compliance with this policy is mandatory for this position.
Hours of work: 21 hours per week
