First Nations, Métis and Inuit Program Facilitator – Northern Ontario

Skills Ontario is looking for a First Nations, Métis and Inuit (FNMI) Program Facilitator to join our team and help promote careers in the skilled trades and technologies to Indigenous youth across Northern Ontario.

This is a home-based position with regular travel throughout Northern Ontario (Sudbury, North Bay, Timmins, Sault Ste. Marie), working directly with schools, communities, educators and youth. Skills Ontario is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to promoting careers in the skilled trades and technologies to youth across Ontario.

Through school presentations, hands-on workshops, summer camps, conferences, competitions and community programming, we connect young people with opportunities to explore their skills, interests and future careers.

Our team works across the province to inspire, engage and empower the next generation of skilled trades and technology professionals.

ABOUT THE ROLE

As an FNMI Program Facilitator, you will be a key representative of Skills Ontario in Northern Ontario.

You'll bring our programs directly into schools and communities, promote career opportunities in the skilled trades and technologies, and build relationships with educators, Indigenous communities and other partners.

No two days will look exactly the same. You may spend one day delivering an interactive presentation to students, another coordinating an upcoming community event, and another preparing materials and connecting with schools from your home office.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

• Deliver engaging presentations, workshops and hands-on activities to youth in schools and communities
• Promote the skilled trades and technologies as rewarding career pathways and help students understand the opportunities available to them
• Build and maintain relationships with school boards, educators, First Nations, Métis and Inuit communities and other community partners
• Coordinate and facilitate school and community programming throughout Northern Ontario
• Deliver summer camps and other youth programming during July and August
• Support the Trades and Tech Truck, conferences, career events, competitions and other Skills Ontario initiatives
• Conduct outreach to schools and communities to promote and schedule programming
• Complete program planning, administrative tasks and reporting
• Travel regularly throughout Northern Ontario, with occasional travel elsewhere in Ontario as required

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

You are someone who:

• Enjoys working with youth and is comfortable presenting to groups
• Has experience delivering presentations, workshops, camps or educational programming
• Has an understanding of Indigenous history, cultures and communities
• Is an excellent communicator and relationship-builder
• Is organized, self-motivated and able to work independently
• Is comfortable reaching out to schools and community partners by phone and email
• Has an interest in the skilled trades and technologies
• Is willing and able to travel regularly
• Holds a valid driver's license and has access to a reliable personal vehicle
• Is available to occasionally work evenings and weekends

Assets include experience working with Indigenous youth or communities, knowledge of skilled trades and technologies, and experience in education, career exploration, community development or youth programming.

POSITION DETAILS

Position: First Nations, Métis and Inuit Program Facilitator
Location: Northern Ontario – Home-Based
Travel: Regular travel throughout Northern Ontario; occasional provincial travel
Employment Type: Full-Time
Salary: $46,000 to $47,500 based on experience
Start Date: As soon as possible
