Work Schedule: 5-2, 8-hour shifts. Although this is the established schedule, the company reserves the right to modify it as needed to meet operational requirements.
Compensation: Salary, based on experience and qualifications.

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

Northern Sun Mining currently has an exciting opportunity for a Health and Safety Coordinator to join our team. This position plays a vital role in promoting a safe and healthy workplace, ensuring regulatory compliance, and fostering a strong culture of safety across all levels of operations. Please note that this is not a camp based position.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop, implement, and maintain health and safety programs to reduce risks, prevent workplace injuries, and comply with relevant legislation and company standards. 
  • Coordinate and track safety training programs for employees and supervisor to meet site-specific and legal requirements. 
  • Create and implement a monthly safety program for use by all frontline supervisors. 
  • Support supervisors in ensuring all workers have completed the necessary training and applicable modules prior to being assigned work tasks. 
  • Investigate workplace incidents, accidents, and near misses. Identify root causes, develop corrective actions, and monitor the effectiveness of implemented solutions. 
  • Conduct regular workplace safety inspections and audits to identify hazards, assess risks, and ensure compliance with safety policies and procedures. 
  • Maintain safety-related databases, including training records and incident reports. 
  • Act as a resource for the JHSC, ensuring compliance with OHSA standards and providing guidance to committee members. 
  • Maintain and update emergency response plans or procedures. 
  • Procure all safety-related materials and oversee the management of the PPE program. 
  • Ensure the completion and issuance of all Ministry of Labour (MOL) compliance documents. 
  • Maintain and oversee all aspects of workers' compensation claims, ensuring compliance with the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB) regulations, and support injured employees through return-to-work (RTW) processes. 
  • Additional tasks as assigned by management. 


QUALIFICATIONS

  • Post-secondary education in Occupational Health and Safety, or a related field. 
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a health and safety role within a mining environment.
  • CRSP (Canadian Registered Safety Professional) designation is considered an asset. 
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • In-depth knowledge of health and safety legislation and best practices. 
  • Proven experience in coordinator safety programs in an industrial and/or mining environment. 
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to engage employees and foster a safety-first mindset. 
  • Excellent organization skills and attention to details. 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
