Health and Safety Coordinator

***This position is based at the Penhorwood Mine and Concentrator ~75km west of Timmins. Daily commute to site is required with a travel allowance provided. ***
JOB SUMMARY/PURPOSE
- Coordinates quality-related functions, such as ISO 9001 administration, laboratory calibrations/preventative maintenance, external and internal non-conformances, change management and corrective & preventative action programs for the Canadian Operations.
JOB SCOPE/DIMENSIONS
- Confers with HSEQ group to revise, develop, or implement the Health and Safety Systems
- Provides H & S support for special projects related to continuous improvement activities and general management functions
- Supports all operations on all day-to-day H & S regulatory requirements and company policies and procedures.
KEY TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Maintains and assists with the integration of the Magris Safety Management System for the locations.
- 3 days a week at Penhorwood, 2 days at Timmins Micronizing mill.
- Compiles and maintains all records related to health and safety
- Maintains and monitors EHS Insight and communicates daily incident reporting activity.
- Maintains a matrix of safety tasks and requirements.
- Prepares all required Health and Safety Reports, such as monthly person-hours, incidents, job observations, Take 5’s and other required statistics.
- Coordinates training programs related to the H & S functions with external training providers and conducts internal training as directed.
- Coordinates industrial hygiene monitoring programs with third party contractors and conducts testing if required. Ensures that control measures are employed to reduce employee exposure to industrial irritants and noise concerns.
- Participates in H & S audits and/or associated reviews, as directed.
- Prepares, schedules, and assists with employee Indoctrination and ART training requirements. Ensures training material is relevant and up to date.
- Leads and organized Safety Connect Day and other related health and safety initiatives.
- Applies knowledge of OHSA regulations, safety management systems and administrative procedures to help investigate improvement ideas and resolve problem areas.
- Coordinates contractor safety indoctrination and compliance with Company contract management protocol.
- Participates in location safety committee meetings.
- Maintains courteous, professional relationships with Company line and staff functions, outside contractors, customers, and government agencies.
- Supports operations on all H & S investigation requirements and the associated documentation, such as Safety Alerts.
- Supports on any other requested health and safety-related tasks required for the safety of employees in our daily operations and regulated company requirements.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS
Education and Experience requirements:
- CRST Certification or working towards this designation
- Good working knowledge of OHSA, Mining and Industrial Regulations
- Experience in open pit mining operations
- 1 – 3 years of experience in Industrial or Mining industry
Knowledge, skills, abilities, and other characteristics:
- Good organizational skills will be necessary to coordinate maintenance of HSE Management systems and provide necessary administrative support to those functions.
- Mathematical skills required to prepare reports and maintain records.
- Computer skills required to manage and utilize data management software and databases
- Interpersonal skills are necessary to promote teamwork and collaborating with teams of people.
- Effective communication, training, and presentation skills
