Registered Practical Nurse

Timmins and District Hospital

Full-Time • Timmins Region

Salary Range: $60,000 - $80,000

Registered Practical Nurse – Acute Medical

 

 

Position Summary:

 

Reporting to the manager of addictions, the successful candidate would provide care to clients admitted to the Withdrawal Management Unit according to the Practice Standards of the College of Nurses of Ontario and according to the policies and procedures of Timmins and District Hospital. 

Position Responsibilities:  

  • Provide support, including the administration of medications to aid with withdrawal.
  • Management of infections and adverse effects from IV substance use.
  • Build rapport with clients and provide client-centered coaching and support.
  • Utilize a harm-reduction approach with clients in a non-judgmental manner.
  • Provides care based on the principles of recovery, compassion, social justice and evidenced-based treatment in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team.
  • Provides care recognizing the prevalence of trauma in many people’s lives.
  • Must be willing to partake in substance related training opportunities as they arise.
  • Must be able to work effectively and collaboratively as a team member.
  • Must have the ability to communicate effectively with people from a variety of backgrounds.
  • Social services knowledge, including availability of community resources.
  • Must be organized and able to perform adequately under stress when confronted with unexpected and/or critical situations.
  • Perform other duties as required. 

Position Requirements:

 

  • Must be a graduate of a diploma nursing program and possess a current Certificate of Competence issued by the College of Nurses of Ontario.
  • Must be a member in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • Must be eligible for membership with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
  •  Current competency in CPR, IV therapy, Medication Administration.
  • Experience in providing clinical assessments and interventions in and addictions setting.
  • Must possess recent experience in working with clients who use substances and/or mental health disorders.
  • A medical background and/or background in working with clients who use substances is considered an asset.
  • Must possess the ability to understand and apply nursing principles and techniques associated with the specific unit.
  • Must have the ability to perform independently, all skills published in the Standards of Nursing Practice, by the College of Nurses of Ontario and the learning ability to achieve and maintain organizational competencies.
  •  Experience with data entry, Windows programs, and Meditech.
  •  Certification in the administration of Sublocade.
  • Demonstrated familiarity/certification of recovery oriented approach and trauma informed care.
  • Demonstrates effective teamwork skills with interdisciplinary team and physician team.
  • Certification in Basic Cardiac Life Support – HCP
  • Must have the ability to communicate effectively with people from a variety of backgrounds to present information effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Must possess patience, understanding and tact when dealing with patients, staff, families and visitors.
  • Must have physical ability to perform work requiring the lifting and transferring of incapacitated patients.
  •  Must possess the ability to perform adequately under stress when confronted with the critical or unexpected event.
  • Must maintain privacy and confidentiality as per hospital policy.
  • Must possess the ability to provide effective services to clients/patients in both English and French. Individuals who do not meet the language requirements of this posting are invited to submit their résumé for future consideration.
  • Must possess the ability to work twelve hour shifts, nights, and weekend tours.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Starting salary of $34.84/hour; $67,938.00/year range to 36.83/hour; $71,818.50/year

  • Option to enroll into Healthcare of Ontario Pension Plan.
