Social Worker Summer Student
Misiway Milopemahtesewin Community Health Centre
Summer / Student • Timmins Region
Misiway is an Indigenous-led Primary Health Care Organization in Timmins, Ontario. Misiway, meaning “everyone” in Cree, reflects our commitment to inclusive, community-centred care. We support the whole person by bringing together people, culture, and services to ensure care for everyone.
Status: Full-Time, Seasonal (35 hours per week)
Salary: $19.50/hour
About This Role
Our Child and Youth Program supports children, youth, and families across
Timmins and surrounding communities. Summer is one of our busiest seasons.
Programming includes healing and talking circles, land-based activities,
cultural events, school outreach, and one-on-one support.
You’ll work alongside Child and Youth Workers, our Coordinator, Traditional Healers, and Elders. Elders and Traditional Healers are part of our team, not visitors to it. Land-based programming is built into the calendar, not bolted on.
You’ll finish the summer with real experience and a reference. You’ll also leave with a better understanding of wholistic care
What You’ll Do
Work Directly with Clients
Your days will be shaped by what’s happening in the program and what your supervisor sees you’re ready for. In general, you can expect to:
• Help plan and run group activities, cultural events, and land-based programming
• Build relationships with children, youth, and families in a respectful, culturally safe way
• Support clients at community events and program drop-ins alongside a staff member
• Help prepare materials, spaces, and communications for the program
• Assist with basic program tracking and data entry, with full training provided
Everything you do with clients will be done alongside a staff member.

• Comfortable working with people from different backgrounds
• Good communicators who can take direction, ask questions, and show up reliably
• Currently enrolled in a post-secondary program in a health or social services field, or finishing high school and considering one
• Connected to the Timmins region or to a First Nations community nearby, or carrying knowledge of Indigenous culture and history (a real asset in this role)
