Position Summary

Under the supervision of the Mechanical Supervisor, the Transit Lead Technician supports by providing advanced technical expertise and day-to-day guidance within the Transit Maintenance Division. The Transit Lead Technician assists mechanics with diagnostics, repairs and maintenance of the conventional and para-transit fleet and acts as the primary technical resource in the Shop. The Transit Lead Technician will assume supervisory responsibilities during the Mechanical Supervisor’s absences ensuring continuity of operations, workflow co-ordination, team motivation and adherence to safety and maintenance standards.

Duties

• Perform advanced diagnostics on conventional and para-transit vehicles including engine, transmission, electrical, HVAC, and accessibility systems
• Assist mechanics with trouble-shooting complex mechanical issues and provide hands-on support as required
• Conduct detailed inspections and recommend corrective actions to ensure optimal fleet performance
• Guide mechanics in preventive and corrective maintenance tasks to ensure fleet reliability and safety
• Support maintenance scheduling to minimize downtime and maintain service levels
• Serve as a mentor, motivate and technical resource to mechanics and apprentices
• Assist the Mechanical Supervisor in overseeing workflow, allocating tasks and monitoring performance
• Identify required parts and materials and co-ordinate procurement with inventory staff
• Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

• Grade 12 education or equivalency
• Ontario 310T Truck and Coach Technician certificate required
• Ontario 310S Automotive Service Technician certificate required
• Valid Ontario Driver’s Licence
• Minimum six years related experience
• Strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills
• Demonstrated ability to motivate, mentor and guide team members effectively
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
• Ability to lead by example and promote a supportive and team-oriented work culture
