Research and Communications Coordinator (Intern) 

Who is eligible?

  • Candidate must be a new entrant into the workforce, transitioning to a new career, or unemployed or underemployed who are entering a new field
  • Candidate must not have previously participated in an NOHFC funded internship
  • Candidate must be 18 years of age or older
  • Candidate must be legally eligible to work in Canada
  • Once hired, the candidate must reside in Timmins, where employed


Salary:
This is a full-time, one year (52 week) contract at $45,000/annum.

Duties

The Research and Communications Coordinator Intern will work under the direct supervision of the Communications and Policy Lead and report to the Manager of Business Services to assist in research and communications activities that improve member engagement, strengthen data collection practices, and help develop policy positions around local business issues. This role provides the opportunity for an Intern to contribute their technological aptitude, strategic communications, stakeholder engagement, design capacity, and research and analysis talent to a fast-paced, growing non-profit organization.  

The Research and Communications Coordinator Intern will work collaboratively with Chamber staff to support the various needs of the team including, but not limited to, collecting, updating, and organizing member data to strengthen engagement strategies; analyzing member feedback to support the identification and development of policy positions that reflect local business priorities, including report writing to communicate findings; drafting information and communication pieces, press releases, and media advisories; assisting with the organization and execution of events where member input and engagement data are gathered; developing communication materials to share research findings and business insights; creating and supporting marketing and promotional initiatives for Chamber programs and events; and contributing to the production and content development of the electronic newsletter and broader Chamber communication channels. 

Education and Training

Degree or diploma in media, communications, journalism, political science, public administration, government relations, business/commerce, marketing, English, or a related field. Formal training or experience in digital communications, graphic design, interactive media, or content creation would be considered a significant asset. 

Skills and Qualifications

  • Critical thinking and analytical abilities, with the capacity to interpret information and identify key themes Ability to manage multiple projects and adhere to target timelines
  • Self-starter with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team setting
  • Creative, solutions-oriented thinker with strong attention to detail
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to tailor messaging to different audiences 
  • Interest in public policy, business advocacy, and community economic development
  • Comfortable working with data collection, surveys, and feedback analysis
  • Experience preparing written materials such as reports, executive summaries, proposals, correspondence, or press releases considered an asset
